Adopt A Pet

Welcome to our Adoptable Petz Page!

This is where we show a few of the many animals in need of good homes. Even though there’s something for just about everyone — from guinea pigs and rabbits to cats and lots of dogs — if you don’t see one that tickles your fancy, each of the agencies listed has plenty more adoptables they would be delighted to show you.

Please be sure to do your homework before inviting one of these friends into your home. Read up. Talk to other owners. Take an honest look at whether your lifestyle matches the specific pet’s needs. Spend a little time getting to know the animal. Investing some effort beforehand can save heartache down the road. Now you can help!

Barney is recovering from a case of the sniffles and is not currently available for adoption.

Bear is a one year old Yorkie mix who weighs 16 pounds. This sweet little guy was surrendered by his former owner because the child in the home was afraid of dogs. This was no fault of Bear's, as we were told he behaved very well around children.

Bear is reportedly housebroken if kept on schedule, and is also crate trained but did not necessarily need the crate when left alone. He enjoys chew toys, playing outside, and playing with other dogs and people.

Bear is available for adoption: Tuesday through Saturday.

Nikki is a beautiful 3 year old Cocker Spaniel who weighs 28 pounds. Nikki had a little too much turkey and dressing at Thanksgiving, so she has decided that she needs to go on a diet to gain her girlish figure back.

Nikki is a sweet girl who came to us from an outlying animal control facility where she was picked up as a stray. We do not understand how someone could let such a playful and friendly dog like Nikki go, but we are glad she is with us here at APR where she will find her perfect forever home.

Nikki is not yet available for adoption.

Name: Buzz
Type/Breed (if applicable): Dwarf
M/F: Male
Size/Weight: (approximate) 4 lbs
Additional Comments: This cool bunny is Buzz.  He was turned in to a county shelter when the family could not afford to keep him.  He is friendly, about 4-5 years old, and good in his litter box.  He can make his ears stick out like airplane wings too!  He is really a great rabbit, and loves attention from people.  As you can see by his picture, he is keeping a lookout, watching for you to come and take him home.
Background: Surrender by owners

Animal's Name: Starbuck & Taylor
Type/Breed (if applicable): Bunny Rabbit
M/F: Bonded Pair
Size/Weight: (approximate) 6 lbs Each
Additional Comments:
Taylor and Starbuck Taylor is a big gray bunny with a big heart, and she is the more outgoing of the two buns.  She loves her little friend Starbuck, who is a bit more shy, and has the softest fur ever!  They have been in a loving foster home, but it's time they found their forever home.  Their original owner went on an extended trip, and returned them to HRS.  They are 3 years old, and would like to move in where they have lots of attention and get plenty of exercise!  Remember that bunnies can live for more than 10 years, so they are not old at all!    Please call us for more information about these two sweet bunnies

Animal's Name: Tammy and Britt
Type/Breed (if applicable): Bunny Rabbit
M/F: Bonded Pair
Size/Weight: (approximate) 6 lbs Each
Additional Comments:
Tammy and Britt were first found as youngsters, in a hallway, about to be put out with the trash.  They were accepted by us, and adopted into a home for a few months, and then returned because the 5 year old lost interest - duh!!!  We want them to go into a home where the whole family is involved in loving on these beautiful rabbits.  Britt (dark brown) is just a bit shy, but eager to come for treats and to see what's going on.  Tammy (white with black spots) does happy binkies and ear tosses that will leave a silly grin on your face

Animal's Name: Stephanie
Type/Breed (if applicable): Bunny Rabbit
M/F:Female
Size/Weight: (approximate) 5 lbs
Additional Comments: When Stephanie was just a tiny baby – 8 to 12 weeks old , she was let go in a neighborhood.  Fortunately,  two great HRS adopters live there and the minute she was spotted a rescue effort was put in place.  They did have to chase a bit but she was no match for this determined crew.  Stephanie is a sweetheart of a bun – we thought she would grow into a big English Spot, but she is staying small.  She is very cute and active – has been known to leap over tall fences!!  She does enjoy lots of attention and pets – she would just love a little boy bunny friend.

Animal's Name: Winifred
Type/Breed (if applicable): Bunny Rabbit
M/F:Female
Size/Weight: (approximate) 7 lbs
Additional Comments:
After 5 years with one family, Winifred was about to be let go outside, when a concerned neighbor took her and fostered her for a bit.  We think she was mistreated by the family, because she is really afraid to be handled.  She is a gorgeous bun, and perfect in her litter box.  Her house keeping is impeccable.  She has gotten more trusting in her new foster home, and now seems to enjoy pets and being talked to.  She definitely likes to have her time out to explore, and all-in-all, Winifred is an easy rabbit to care for.  If you have a lonely guy at home that would like a companion, she would be a great choice.

Animal's Name: Colby
Type/Breed (if applicable): Bunny Rabbit
M/F: Male
Size/Weight: (approximate) 5 lbs
Additional Comments:
Colby had been left alone in a darkened basement with no attention for several months.  He is such a nice rabbit - very friendly - loves attention and petting - and always comes running to say Hi.  He has a spot in one eye that is being treated with eye drops twice a day, but it is causing no problems for him at all.  He is great about getting the drops - doesn't mind bit as long as you take some time to pet him and tell him how special he is!!  If you are interested in this wonderful boy, HRS will continue to pay for the meds until he is released by the eye vet.  He loves his play time out, and can jump pretty high, so you can expect him to want to sit with you on the furniture I'm sure.

Name: Gala
Age: 2 years old
Type/Breed: Shepherd/Hound mix
Gender: Female
Size/Weight: 43 lbs

Hello, my name is Gala. My puppies and I were found in a trailer in downtown Atlanta. Now that my puppies have found loving homes, I need to find one too! I am a 2 years old and 43 pounds Shepherd/Hound mix. I have got all my shots and will get spayed as soon as I finish my heartworm treatment. I love people and kids and get along well with other dogs. I like to chase cats. I walk well on a leash and enjoy car rides. My foster mom says I am a very good listener: I just stare at her and flap my ears when she talks! I am ready to go home: I have my bed, my toys, a starter bag of my food and flea and heartworm preventive for the first three months. Hurry up! I will be THE BEST companion in your life!

Name: Sheba
Age: 8-10 years old
Type/Breed: Rottie

I used to be a family pet. I was a young dog when my owner had a baby. So she put me outside on a chain. After some years and 4 animal control citations, she got me a pen. I lived there with another dog in a small space for a year.

Now I am 8 to 10 years old. My owner does not want to take care of me anymore. A compassionate neighbor is looking for a home for me. I am a Rottie. I am in good health and no heartworm. I like large dogs, people and kids. I am not sure about cats.

I am just an old dog with a grey muzzle who wants a cozy home to live out my life. I want love, companionship and a family. Please help me.

Name: Simba
Age: adult
Type/Breed: Domestic Long Hair
Gender: Male

Comments: Simba is a very handsome six year old, Domestic Long Hair cat. He has had a rough life so far with being bounced around from home to home. He was originally adopted from Atlanta Pet Rescue and lived happily in his adoptive home for about four years until the family had a new baby who was allergic. Simba then went to live with a close relative for the next two years, but had to be returned to Atlanta Pet Rescue when they moved out of state. We hope to find him a forever home who will keep him...well, forever! Could you be the one to give Simba the stability in his life that he so desperately needs?

Atlanta Pet Rescue is open Tuesday - Thursday (11 a.m. - 3 p.m.), Friday (11 a.m. - 4 p.m.) and Saturday (12 - 5 p.m.). For more information about Atlanta Pet Rescue or how to adopt Simba, Shelby, Adam or any of our 80+ dogs, cats, puppies and kittens looking for homes, visit our Web site at www.atlantapetrescue.org.

Name: Adam
Age: adult
Type/Breed: Yorkie Chihuahua mix
Gender: Male

Comments: Adam is a three year old, seven pound Yorkie Chihuahua mix. This adorable-looking boy came to Atlanta Pet Rescue from an in-town animal control facility. Adam is housebroken and crate trained. He is very particular about having strangers touch him and would prefer to be his owner's one and only. If you want to feel safe because you have a guard dog protecting you, but can't afford the big dog food bills, Adam is just the dog for you.

Name: Shelby
Age: adult
Type/Breed: Yorkie Chihuahua mix
Gender: Female

Comments: Shelby is a nine to 12 month old, 18 pound Sheltie mix with beautiful markings and soft fur. Shelby came to Atlanta Pet Rescue from an outlying animal control facility where she had been picked up by animal control after she and several other dogs were abandoned in a vacant house with no food or water. She is afraid of many things and will need an experienced and very patient owner to help her learn about the world. However, Shelby is extremely receptive to attention and affection and even moves towards your hand when you stop petting her. She shows much promise for becoming a great family pet.

Name: Faith
Age: adult
Type/Breed: Newfie Pyr
Gender: Female
Size/Weight: 85 lbs

Comments: Faith is a beautiful newfie pyr, or so the petshop paperwork indicates… she is a short and stocky girl, weighing in at 85 lbs and the height of her back is about 21 inches. She will turn 2 years old in July, is spayed and up to date on shots. She is mostly black, with beautiful long soft hair. She is crate trained and housebroken. Faith was a companion dog, her human was terminally ill. She was purchased as a puppy and has fulfilled her responsibilities, staying with her buddy till the end. Now Faith is ready for a new chapter in her life. We have introduced her to family life, loud noises, dogs, children everywhere. She is learning to spend time outdoors, she needs some exercise, I believe she is a tad under-tall for the weight she is at. When I sit next to her, she gently puts her paw on my lap. She is protective of her owner, and immediately identifies her “safe-side adult” and clings for a few days. She would make a wonderful companion dog for anyone, and she is learning the skills that will also make her a wonderful family dog. She is a slow adapter, she will need a couple of weeks to get used to your new home and the people and pets who live there. To help her fully reach her potential as a great family dog, you will need patience and persistence… and of course, faith.

To adopt Faith, or for more information, please go to www.nationalpyr.org

Name: Lily Monkey
Age: about 4 months old
Gender: Female
Estimated Adult Weight: 90-100 lbs
Color: white
Dew Claws: yes
Origin: Animal Control, rural Georgia
Current Location: NGPR approved foster home in Newnan, GA
Medical: Spayed, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with an Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met
Housebroken: working on it
Can be Placed With: dogs, cats, people, kids, everyone!
Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required
Fees: $300 adoption, out of state transport is available for an additional fee

Comments: And what a monkey she is! She is adventurous, mischievous, and, well… a pyr! She enjoys playing with other dogs and she loves doggy toys. This cute little furball knows how to stir up some trouble, so make sure you know what you are getting in line for… she needs a high energy owner who is willing to take the Monkey with the Lily! She can climb out of a chain link enclosure (with a bowl in her mouth, such talent) so a wooden privacy fence is strongly recommended. She spends her days playing in the yard with other dogs, and her nights indoors in a crate. She is crate trained and we are working on housebreaking, but she is only 16 weeks old, so she should go to owners who are willing to continue working with her. She has the cutest ears… hard to tell if she is a mix, the white fur and double dew claws point to mostly (if not all) pyr. She was picked up from Animal Control in rural Georgia, listed as a stray.

I am sure she will get adopted quickly, who can resist such a cute puppy… Send in your application right away at www.nationalpyr.org

Name: Andre, the soon to be giant
Age: 5 months
Color: White
Dew Claws: yes
Estimated Adult Weight: 100-120 lbs
Origin: Bishop, GA
Current Location: NGPR approved foster home in Newnan, GA
Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with an Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met
Housebroken: working on it
Can be Placed With: Men, Kids, Cats, Other Dogs
Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required
Fees: $300 adoption, out of state transport is available for an additional fee

Comments: This is Andre, a beautiful Pyrenees boy. He is about 5 months old, weighing in at 50 lbs. Andre is all white, and is neutered and up to date on shots. He is also microchipped already. Andre is a very sweet puppy with a somewhat quiet disposition. He enjoys playing with children and loves to be petted. He is crate trained and is working on housebreaking. He adapts well to new situations and enjoys going for walks. He definitely had some motion sickness in the car, but this could be a direct result of my poor driving skills. Puppies always go fast, so get your application in right away to take Andre home with you (but you might want to let him ride up front, and keep a towel handy!)

Go to www.nationalpyr.org for more information.

Name: Tiny Dancer, The Smallish Pyr
Age: 1 to 1.5 years old
Color: White
Dew Claws: yes
Estimated Adult Weight: 70 lbs
Origin: Cartersville Animal Control, Georgia
Current Location: NGPR approved foster home in Newnan, GA
Medical: Spayed, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with an Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met
Housebroken: working on it
Can be Placed With: Men, Kids, Cats, Other Dogs
Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required
Fees: $300 adoption, out of state transport is available for an additional fee

Comments: Welcome Tiny, a beautiful girl, smallish in stature (for a pyr). Tiny is probably a golden/pyr mix. What Tiny lacks in size, she makes up for in presence. Tiny LOVES to be with her humans, and will go to great lengths to wiggle her way into your bedroom, couch, office, and heart. Tiny was picked up as a stray in early April. It took her a couple of weeks to warm up to other dogs. After overcoming her initial shyness, she quickly learned the ins and outs of pyr life from her pyr foster brother and sister. She loves other dogs, cats, children. She is a picky eater, apparently Bil Jac was widely available in the fields where she was found wandering and she can’t settle for anything less. If you prefer to feed her something else, change over her food a little bit at a time. Tiny is crate trained. Tiny is a sensitive soul. She gets a little anxious when it storms, but is not storm phobic. She likes to curl up behind the bathroom door or be right there with you. Tiny is a good girl and is ready to love and be loved by her forever family.

She would love for you to send in an application today at www.nationalpyr.org

Name: Lola
Age: adult

Comments: : Lola is a spunky girl who will make you laugh at her antics. She loves to toss around all the toys you see in the picture, and sometimes drops them in her water just for extra fun. She had a bunny partner, but they were let loose outside, and her friend died from the stress of the whole ordeal as soon as she was recaptured. This girl needs a forever home where she gets lots of things to play with, and lots of places to explore, and lots of love to share. She gets along well with kids, well mannered dogs and cats.
