The Battle Against Pet Hair is Over

Miracle De-ShedderTM with vacuum handle promises clean-as-you-groom ease

What if there was a pet de-shedding tool that not only removed hair and dander but vacuumed it up neatly too? Now there is. The Miracle De-ShedderTM from Miracle CareTM is one of a family of innovative grooming products designed to make pet ownership easier and more enjoyable.

Available in three sizes, this ingenious two-in-one tool is loaded with user-friendly features. The uniquely angled blade removes even the thickest hair without nicking sensitive skin, while the ergonomic handle provides a secure, comfortable grip for effortless grooming that both parent and pet will appreciate. Plus, the Miracle De-Shedder's 1 1/4" tapered nozzle attaches easily to most standard vacuum cleaners. So when time is tight, pet parents can cut the clean up. Hair and dander go directly down the hose, leaving the surrounding area clean and mess-free - ahem, hair-free.

"The Miracle De-Shedder was made with the modern pet parent in mind," comments Bill Sherk, President at MiracleCorpTM, makers of Miracle Care grooming products. Designed to synchronize what has been a two-step grooming process, the De-Shedder is the first grooming tool that actually cleans up after itself leaving more time to enjoy your pet. The Miracle De-Shedder design is patent pending and retails from $47.99 for the large model to $34.99 for the smallest size. GPS Tracking System Merges Technology, Functionality and Design, Bringing Peace of Mind to Pet Parents

Pet parents no longer have to worry about losing their beloved companions with the arrival of Tagg—The Pet Tracker™, an advanced pet tracking system equipped with GPS and wireless capabilities that enables pets to stay in touch with their owners. Tagg—The Pet Tracker is the first product from Snaptracs Inc., a newly formed, wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), the world leader in mobile technologies. The Tagg pet tracking system uses advanced GPS technology to enable pet owners to know where their pets are and be notified if they wander off. Tagg provides peace of mind for any pet parent by providing them access to their pet’s whereabouts via a mobile phone, mobile device or computer.

Hundreds of thousands of pets go missing every year, and according to the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, only 15 to 20 percent of lost dogs and only two percent of lost cats are ever returned to their owners. Tagg—The Pet Tracker is a purpose-built solution that uses a sophisticated combination of GPS and wireless technology to monitor a pet’s location and quickly notify the owner via email and/or text if the pet leaves its Tagg zone, the area where it spends most of its time—typically the home, yard and
adjacent areas.

The Tagg tracker is designed for dogs and cats over 10 lbs. and is a small, lightweight and durable device that attaches securely to an existing collar. Built to withstand all the running, digging and jumping of a pet’s busy day, the tracker is meant to be worn at all times, even while swimming. The long-lasting battery can last up to 30 days, but actual battery life will vary based on usage patterns. Read more about battery life. Convenient features have been built into the compact, stylish and comfortable tracker, including battery recharge notifications and a trip button, which allows pet and owner to take walks, car rides or travel without sending an alert.

“We created Tagg because we understand that pets are an important part of today’s family. As pet owners ourselves, we were inspired to design a purpose-built solution that provides owners the peace of mind that their pet is where it is supposed to be,” said Dave Vigil, president of Snaptracs. “A lost pet is something no owner wants to experience, and we are proud to have developed a simple-to-use and affordable tracking system that will help reunite pet and owner quickly if the pet wanders off.”

Tagg—The Pet Tracker service is provided on the Verizon Wireless network, giving pet parents reliable access to tracking information via its nationwide coverage. The Tagg Master Kit, which includes all hardware and one full year of service, is $199.99 and has an anticipated September ship date. Individual trackers for additional pets in the same family are also available.

Traveling over the river or through the woods can be easier for your dog with Travel Calm all-natural remedy mist from Earth Heart, Inc.

Thanksgiving is a wonderful time of celebration for families. But the stress of colder weather and travel can be stressful for the family dog. Many dogs can experience restlessness, drooling, panting, whimpering and tummy upset during travel, even on short trips.

Earth Heart, Inc.’s, Travel Calm all-natural mist is a safe and healthy solution for travel shy dogs. Created to help soothe restlessness and upset tummies during all forms of travel, the mist is formulated with pure essential oils that have been traditionally used in natural remedies, such as lavender and geranium for relaxation, and ginger stomach upset.

“Travel Calm works quickly by spraying directly onto a dog's crate bedding or clothing, or rubbed into their outer ears and abdomen, or on your car or dog seats,” said Earth Heart founder, Vicki Rae Thorne. “Our customers are very happy to have one less thing to worry about when traveling.”

“I used Travel Calm to help my miniature long haired dachshund from vomiting in the car, indicated Ann Morrison, of Halifax, Nova Scotia. “I simply sprayed it on her dog seat. It's a miracle. No vomiting! It can't be this easy!? Just a happy dog that wants to go for car drives now!”

Travel Calm won't stain or leave a sticky residue on materials or fur, and can be used with puppies as young as eight weeks old. It is made in the USA, packaged in a BPA free container, and recommended by dog lovers and professionals as a safe and effective natural remedy providing relief to over 95% of dogs who experience restlessness, drooling, panting, whimpering and tummy upset during travel.

A Pet Memorial That Does Some Good

A living memorial to a furry friend can help restore a forest in need

Trees for a Change, a organization that plants trees as gifts, now offers a Pet Memorial Tree Gift. The gifts are $20 to $35, and each includes the planting of a tree, a personalized card and optional certificate, the pet’s photo and name on their online pet registry, and access to information about where the tree was planted, including photos.

Since opening in 2007, Trees for a Change has planted over 3000 trees in U.S. National Forests that have been destroyed by wildfire. The trees are all native species to each area, and help restore forests that are important habitat for wildlife. The trees are planted for all occasions, including memorials, birthdays, weddings, and now pet memorials.

“I love this idea” says, Ronnie Roche, who planted a tree in memory of her cat Scamper. “Planting a tree that will live on in Scamper’s name makes me feel good, and I like seeing her photo on the website with all the other pets.”

When Debbie Cooley lost her beloved dog, Niko, she was inconsolable. “My dog was part of the family, so when she died, I was devastated. My friend Cindy planted a tree for Niko and sent me the certificate. It was such a thoughtful gift. I will definitely give these Pet Memorial Trees as gifts in the future to my friends when they loose an animal.”

The organization’s mission, according to founder Kim Isley, is to offer personal and meaningful gifts that connect people to nature and help the planet.” An adoring pet owner herself, Isley feels good about the new pet memorials. “Most of us can’t bear the thought of losing our critters, but knowing their memory lives on in a tree—that, I think, is a comfort to people. I know it would be to me.”

Pet Bandages That Can’t be Licked
Keeping around a pet first aid kit is a great way to be prepared. Skin allergies, hot spots, scrapes, and minor injuries are among the most common health problems for dogs and cats. Nurtured Pets™, a company focused on health and wellness products for pets, has introduced the revolutionary Anti-Lick Strip Prevent™ bandage. These pet bandages feature an outer surface constructed with natural ingredients – like cayenne pepper, clove oil and oregano – that deter pets from bothering problem spots so they have a chance to heal. These natural pet bandages are also ideal to keep new pets that have been recently spayed or neutered to avoid licking their healing areas.

Anti-Lick Strip Prevent stops licking, biting and chewing to prevent additional skin irritations and promote faster healing. And, since you never know when an annoying itch or scrape can occur with a new pet, it’s a good idea to keep extra pet bandages on hand. Anti-Lick Strip Prevent works great for cats as well, and even won recognition as one of the best products of 2009 from Cat Fancy magazine. The bandages are available in small, medium and large sizes, and come in a (6) Six Pack or (2) Two Pack. Prices start at $8.95 for the two packs. For more information, visit http://www.nurturedpets.com.

What do you give to the pet lovers on your list? Here are a few great ideas for gifts that any pet owner is sure to enjoy:

  1. DNA Breed Identification Kit. Many people with adopted dogs never know exactly what breed or mix of breeds their dog is. This kit, available at many pet supply websites for around sixty dollars, allows a dog owner to take a swab from their dog’s cheek and send it into a lab to find out for sure. Now when people ask what exactly little Fido is, your friend will be able to proudly announce with complete confidence: “He’s a peki-pomi-malti-poo!”

  2. The Dog Owner’s Home Veterinary Handbook by James M Griffin, MD & Lisa D. Carlson, DVM. This book explains various health problems in dogs, how to treat them, and when to call the vet. Any dog lover will be happy to have this reference at home to help them handle anything from a little cough to a true veterinary emergency. Many similar books are available—just make sure you pick one that was written by a licensed veterinarian.

  3. College Team Pet Bandana. If your friend is as big a sports fan as he is a dog fan, consider getting a college team pet bandana, which is easily found online for five or ten dollars. Collars and pet jerseys are also available with different college football team logos, which can be found online or at university bookstores.

  4. Pet Carrier. For people with small dogs or puppies, consider buying a stylish shoulder bag or backpack for them to carry their dog with them when they travel or just run errands around town. Hundreds of different styles are available from a basic nylon shoulder bag to a high-end fashionable dog purse. You can find dog carriers at any pet store chain or online in a wide range of prices.

  5. Pet Portraits. If you really want to go all out, send in a photo of the beloved pet to an artist who will then paint or sketch a portrait of the pet. Portraits are available in a variety of styles from lifelike sketches to paintings in the style of pop art phenomenon Andy Warhol. Prices generally start around $200 and can be more than double that depending on the artist and size portrait you choose. Browse around online and you will find the sites of many artists that include their pricing and samples of their work. Keep in mind that the artist may have a waiting list of several months, so make sure to put in your order ahead of time if you need the portrait ready for a special occasion.

  6. Professional Pet Photos. If you’d rather not spring for a pet portrait, why not give a gift certificate so your friend can have their pet photographed professionally? Many pet stores, from national chains to local boutiques, now offer this service.

With the proliferation of pet products in recent years, it’s easy to find a gift for the pet lover in your life that is a perfect match both for their taste and your budget.
